During her guesting on El Pueblo Publico on April 25, 2026, aired via DWIZ, Deanne Lorraine Cabalfin, Supervising èßäAV Specialist at the èßäAV, shared key findings on poverty and vulnerability in the Philippines.
While official data show that 11% of Filipino families are poor, the study points to a broader reality: around 30% of families are at risk of falling into poverty—including those not officially classified as poor.
She explained that many of these households rely on unstable or low-income sources, making them highly vulnerable to shocks such as job loss, illness, natural disasters, or rising prices of basic goods. In effect, the line separating the “non-poor” from the “poor” remains thin for many vulnerable families.
Her insights highlight the need to strengthen social protection systems, not only for the poorest, but also for vulnerable and near-poor families facing everyday economic uncertainty.
