The Philippine government has historically supported its agricultural sector through market price support (primarily by erecting trade barriers), and by its expenditure program. One justification for this support is that Filipino farmers are at a disadvantage compared with their counterparts abroad, because they are strongly supported by their own governments. The proposed study evaluates this claim with an overall objective to recommend policies to support Filipino farmers in the context of international patterns of support and world market conditions.
How should the country’s agricultural policies adapt to the international structure of agricultural support?
